Electronics is the foundation of modern communication — transforming ideas into signals and signals into global connectivity. - Henry Smith Carhart.
The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) was established in the year 2004 with the B.Tech programme in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Over the past two decades, the department has grown significantly and now offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in core and emerging areas of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
The M.Tech program in Embedded Systems was introduced in the year 2012. The department is a recognized Research Centre under Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, and has been offering Ph.D programmes in Electronics and Communication Engineering since 2019.
B.Tech programme in Electronics and Communication Engineering has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) successively for multiple terms, and the M.Tech programme in Embedded Systems has also received consecutive NBA accreditations. The current NBA accreditation validity for both programmes is up to 30th June 2028 under Tier-I -Washington Accord.
The B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering at IARE provides students with a breadth of knowledge and range of technical skills in theoretical and applied aspects of the field. The program covers not only the traditional areas of Microwave and RF Engineering but also all of the major evolving areas of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Students are equipped with solid foundations in the areas of Analog and Digital Electronics, Communication Systems, Signal Processing and Embedded Systems
The department has 14 academic laboratories like Electronic Devices and Circuits Laboratory Digital System Design Laboratory Data Structures Laboratory, Analog Electronics Laboratory Communication Systems Laboratory Linear IC Applications Laboratory, VLSI Design Laboratory, RF and Microwave Antenna Design Laboratory, Embedded System Design and IoT Laboratory Digital Signal and Image Processing Laboratory Microprocessors and Microcontrollers Laboratory, Virtual Instrumentation Laboratory, Engineering Chemistry Laboratory ,Network Analysis and Synthesis Laboratory. The infrastructure and lab facilities are upgraded from time to time and provide good practical learning and innovative environment for the students and researchers.
The students are nurtured with a variety of active learning activities including and not restricted to class room teaching, presentations, video lectures, MOOC courses, minor / honors courses, experiential learning (Exeed) and online courses by faculty in the institute and across the globe.
Skills and Competences:
Considering the professional expectations, an Electronics and Communication Engineering graduate should possess four or more the following competencies :
Ability to design and analyze electronic and communication systems
Proficiency in circuit design and simulation tools
Skills in embedded programming and real-time systems
Understanding of signal processing techniques
Knowledge of wireless and optical communication systems
Ability to develop IoT-based solutions
Logical, analytical, and creative problem-solving abilities

Student Professional Activities
The Electronics and Communication Engineers Technical Association (ELECTA) is the vibrant student body of the department, actively organizing a wide range of academic and co-curricular activities such as technical seminars, workshops, quizzes, industrial visits, paper and poster presentations, group discussions, guest lectures, and career guidance programs. In addition, professional student chapters like IEEE, ISTE, and IETE provide excellent platforms for technical networking, research collaboration, and leadership development.
To further nurture innovation and creativity, the department hosts several active student clubs, including the Engineering Clinics for hardware design challenges and hands-on projects, the Idea to Innovation (I2I) Club for promoting product development, the Robotics and Embedded Systems Club focusing on automation, robotics, and IoT, and the e-DAM (e-Design and Marketing) Club.
M.Tech (Embedded Systems)
Embedded Systems (ES) is a two year full time post-graduate program approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The department offers full time M.Tech program in Embedded Systems with an intake of 12, selected through GATE / TS PGECET.
An embedded system is a productive synergy between hardware and software design. Essentially, it’s the art of choosing and designing the proper combination of hardware and software components to achieve design goals like speed and efficiency.
The course structure of this program will include the core subjects like Embedded Real Time Operating Systems, Microcontrollers for Embedded System Design, Hardware Software Co-Design, and CPLD and FPGA Architectures and applications, and elective subjects Advanced Computer Architecture, VLSI Technology and Design, Multimedia and Signal Coding and System on Chip Architecture.
