"We are connecting the world" With the evolution of technology, Electronics and Communication has become an essential discipline that is required by every other industry. Hence, ECE is one of the most sought-after branches by students. It requires strong problem solving and analytical skills, as well as a solid understanding of mathematics and computers in relation to electrical and electronic devices. This course focuses on four key areas in electronics: circuits and systems, signal processing, computing, and communication.
The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) was established in the year 2004 with B.Tech program in ECE. The M.Tech program in Embedded Systems was started in the year 2012.The department has a recognized Research Centre under Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad and offers Ph.D programs in Electronics and Communication Engineering 2019.
B.Tech program in ECE has been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) successively four consecutive terms in 2013, 2016,2019 and 2022 and M.Tech program in Embedded Systems for two consecutive terms 2019 and 2022. The period of validity for B.Tech program in ECE in Tier - I is till 30 June, 2025 and M.Tech program in ECE was till 30 June, 2025.
The department has an array of courses for students to choose and study electronic hardware and software, automation, robotics and control, communications, radio and television, computer engineering, solid – state devices, microelectronics, VLSI and other circuits & systems.
The main objective of the department is to provide
i) System design
Students benefit from access to high-end facilities including eCAD software – Pspice / MultiSim / NI LabVIEW; simulators for chip design (Xilinx / Cadence); a wide range of development systems for microcomputer, microcontroller and embedded systems; digital signal processing (DSP) boards; rapid prototyping equipment with 3D printers and laser cutters – all of which allow to better understand how the theory they have learnt links to real workplace scenarios.
ii) Employability
A blend of electronic system design with computing continue to be among the most employable in the country 90% employment with average starting salaries of Rs. 7 lakhs.
The faculties are expertise in diverse areas including VLSI, embedded systems, advanced communications, internet of things, signal and image processing.
In order to make teaching effective and interesting, the students are nurtured with a variety of learning activities including class room teaching, presentations, video lectures for slow and fast learners, MOOC courses, minor / honour courses and online courses by faculty in the institute.
The department has well-equipped laboratory facilities like electronic devices and circuits, analog and pulse circuits, basic simulation, digital logic design, analog communications, digital communications, integrated circuits, micro processors and micro controllers, digital signal processing, antennas and microwave engineering, VLSI desing lab. Specialized simulation software like MATLAB, LabVIEW, Cadence, PSpice, Vivado, HFSS, Multisim etc. are available with the department to carry out experiments and research activities. The infrastructure and lab facilities are upgraded from time to time and provide good practical learning and innovative environment for the students and researchers.
Experiential learning is, in essence, the process of developing new skills or knowledge through doing, rather than reading, watching or listening. It is the most natural and effective way that we learn. As such, experiential learning has much better rates of engagement, long-term retention and transferability than other methods of learning. Experiential learning lends itself to richer skill development.
M.Tech (Embedded Systems)
Embedded Systems (ES) is a two year full time post-graduate program approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The department offers full time M.Tech program in Embedded Systems with an intake of 12, selected through GATE / TS PGECET.
An embedded system is a productive synergy between hardware and software design. Essentially, it’s the art of choosing and designing the proper combination of hardware and software components to achieve design goals like speed and efficiency.
The course structure of this program will include the core subjects like Embedded Real Time Operating Systems, Microcontrollers for Embedded System Design, Hardware Software Co-Design, and CPLD and FPGA Architectures and applications, and elective subjects Advanced Computer Architecture, VLSI Technology and Design, Multimedia and Signal Coding and System on Chip Architecture.
