Center for Alternative Energy Sources (Solar | Thermo Electric | Materials)

About

The Center for Alternative Energy Sources (Solar | Thermo Electric | Materials) is the entity for the promotion of renewable energy sources, rational use of energy and energy conservation. In the modern demanding energy sector STEM is dynamically active, in the frame of the national and community policy and legislation, for the protection of the environment and sustainable development.

STEM continues to instigate, lead and deliver high quality, research, collaborating with industry and international academic networks. The center provides the facilities to take up innovative projects and significant activities for the promotion and market penetration of new energy technologies.

The synthesis of nanoparticles, nanocrystalline thin films of nano porous as well as dense nanoscale materials research laboratory focuses on including:

Facilities available:

Chemical Fume Hood:

Chemical fume hood is one of the most reliable engineering controls in the laboratory. It will protect researchers and workers by containing vapors, dusts, gases, and fumes generated within the hood, and removing them as air flows into the hood and then out via the laboratory exhaust system. It is used to synthesize any compounds or chemical preparation.

Purpose: Academic and Research
Equipment Cost: Rs. Rs. 1,51,180/-
Location and Hours: Ground Floor 1012, Bhardwaja Block, 09:30 AM - 06:00 PM

Spin Coater

Spin coating is a procedure or technique used to deposit uniform thin films onto flat substrates by centrifugal force. The apparatus used for spin coating is called a spin coater, or a spinner. A solution of material is dispensed onto the center of a wafer, which is then rotated at high speed.

Purpose: Academic and Research
Equipment Cost: Rs. 1,39,560/-
Location and Hours: Ground Floor 1012, Bhardwaja Block, 09:30 AM - 06:00 PM

Vacuum Oven

A vacuum drying oven is most often used for delicate drying processes, such as drying tiny parts or removing flammable solvents. The low pressure environment also minimizes oxidation during drying.

Purpose: Academic and Research
Equipment Cost: Rs. 58,721/-
Location and Hours: Ground Floor 1012, Bhardwaja Block, 09:30 AM - 06:00 PM

Hot Air Oven

A hot air oven is a type of dry heat sterilization. Dry heat sterilization is used on equipment that cannot be wet and on material that will not melt, catch fire, or change form when exposed to high temperatures.

Purpose: Academic and Research
Equipment Cost: Rs. 62,368/-
Location and Hours: Ground Floor 1012, Bhardwaja Block, 09:30 AM - 06:00 PM

Muffle Furnaces

A muffle furnace is used for high-temperature applications such as melting glass, creating enamel coatings, technical ceramics or soldering and brazing.

Purpose: Academic and Research
Equipment Cost: Rs. 53,548/-
Location and Hours: Ground Floor 1012, Bhardwaja Block, 09:30 AM - 06:00 PM

Magnetic stirrers with Hot plates

A magnetic stirrer is a device widely used in laboratories and consists of a rotating magnet or a stationary electromagnet that creates a rotating magnetic field. This device is used to make a stir bar, immerse in a liquid, quickly spin, or stirring or mixing a solution.

Purpose: Academic and Research
Equipment Cost: Rs. 20,000/-
Location and Hours: Ground Floor 1012, Bhardwaja Block, 09:30 AM - 06:00 PM

Centrifuge

A centrifuge is a device that uses centrifugal force to separate various components of a fluid. This is achieved by spinning the fluid at high speed (6000 rpm) within a container, thereby separating fluids of different densities or liquids from solids.

Purpose: Academic and Research
Equipment Cost: Rs. 20,000/-
Location and Hours: Ground Floor 1012, Bhardwaja Block, 09:30 AM - 06:00 PM

Desiccator

A common use for desiccator is to protect chemicals which are hygroscopic or which react with water from humidity.

Purpose: Academic and Research
Equipment Cost: Rs. 4,000/-
Location and Hours: Ground Floor 1012, Bhardwaja Block, 09:30 AM - 06:00 PM

Digital Ultrasonic Cleaner

The ultrasound can be used with just water, but use of a solvent appropriate for the object to be cleaned and the type of soiling present enhances the effect. Cleaning normally lasts between three and six minutes, but can also exceed 20 minutes, depending on which object has to be cleaned.

Purpose: Academic and Research
Equipment Cost: Rs. 13,000/-
Location and Hours: Ground Floor 1012, Bhardwaja Block, 09:30 AM - 06:00 PM

Hydraulic press pelletizer

Preparation of pellets for spectral and impedance spectroscopy analysis.

Purpose: Academic and Research
Equipment Cost: Rs. 68,000/-
Location and Hours: Ground Floor 1012, Bhardwaja Block, 09:30 AM - 06:00 PM
