Mechanical Engineering
"No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man."
The department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) was established in the year 2004 with B.Tech program in Mechanical Engineering. The M.Tech program in CAD/CAM was started in the year 2011. The department has a recognized Research Centre under Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad and facilitates Ph.D programs in Mechanical Engineering since 2019 with empanelled research guides. In these two decades, the department is expanded to play a significant role in producing quality engineers. The core values of the department help the students to develop their overall personality and make them worthy to compete and work at global level.
B.Tech program in Mechanical Engineering was accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) successively four terms in 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2022 (valid till 30 June, 2025) for three years each.
The department has academic laboratories which include hardware and software that consists of, Metallurgy and Mechanics of solids, Manufacturing Processes, Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics Machines, Applied Thermodynamics, Machine Tools and Metrology, Theory of Machines, Heat Transfer, Instrumentation and Control Systems, Machine Drawing Through CAD, Fluid Thermal Modelling and Simulation ,Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD / CAM) Computer Aided Numerical Control, Computational Mechanical Engineering Laboratory etc. The infrastructure and lab facilities are upgraded from time to time and provide good practical learning and innovative environment for the students and researchers. A MAKER SPACE is established in the department for the benefit of students of department and intra department to develop ideas into products. The department also has the centres of excellence in the following niche areas in collaborations with leading industries like M/s MTE Industries Pvt. Ltd., and with government organisation like MSME, NSIC, etc.
1. Centre for Automation and Robotics (CAR)
2. Centre for Material Testing and characterization.
The students are nurtured with a variety of active learning activities including and not restricted to class room teaching, presentations, video lectures, MOOC courses, minor / honours courses, experiential learning (EXEED) and online courses by faculty in the institute and across the globe.
Mechanical Engineering Students Technical Association (MESTA) is a students’ body for conducting activities on career development, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills of students. It organizes Seminars, Quizzes, Industrial Visits, Paper / Poster Presentations, Group Discussions, Guest Lectures, Career Guidance, Coding Games etc. under its auspices Student clubs. With an objective of help students to pursue their hobbies and interests and to bring people together the student clubs are created at the Institute.
Student Chapters of various professional bodies like Society of Automotive Engineers (SAEINDIA), Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), and Institute of Engineers (IEI) provide unique opportunities for networking, mentoring and bonding over common interests.
M.Tech (Computer Aided Design / Computer Aided Manufacturing)
CAD/CAM is a two year full time post-graduate program approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The department offers full time M.Tech program in CAD/CAM with an intake of 12, selected through GATE / TS PGECET.
CAD/CAM is a productive synergy between hardware and software design. Essentially, it’s the art of choosing and designing the proper combination of hardware and software components to achieve design goals like speed and efficiency.
The Course offers core subjects like Advanced CAD, Advanced FEM, DFM, Precision Engineering, CFD, Numerical Methods, Advanced CAM, Industrial Robotics, DH&PS, FMS, Automation in Manufacturing etc.
