VLSI and Embedded Real-Time Systems

The Embedded Systems lab supports teaching and research in embedded systems and re-configurable hardware technology. It is a cross-disciplinary facility with collaborative projects across departments such as Aero, EEE, CSE, Mechanical Engg. etc. As embedded systems evolve, design issues become increasingly complex, and previously rigid boundaries between hardware and software components become more fluid. With tight time-to-market constraints and rapidly changing protocols, the need for reconfigurable systems has become a necessity.

Presently, the lab can be used to learn and implement novel ideas revolving around embedded microprocessors and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA's). Equipment in the lab includes FPGA prototyping boards and FPGA development kits, Dynalog 8051 trainer boards and a host of powerful desktop computers running Celoxica's DK1 Handel-C system development environment and Xilinx tools for hardware design. The FPGA prototyping boards use the Xilinx Vertex chip (1 M gates) or the smaller, cheaper Xilinx Spartan-II (200K gates).

Go-kart

Designing a go-kart is by no means an easy task for the students. A go-kart is an ongoing process at IARE in the design and development for go- kart racing championship on a regular year on year basis as it is adventurous. The Go-kart is a hybrid vehicle. The hybrid vehicle typically achieves greater fuel economy by Oxygen enrichment and lower emissions than conventional internal combustion engine vehicles, resulting in fewer emissions being generated. Keeping the environmental concerns in mind, hybrid vehicles are the future of automobile industry. An innovative technology is adopted for replacing the differential with multi-plate clutches.

Students of Mechanical Engineering have successfully through the Acceleration and braking test, Skid-pad test, Auto-cross along with Endurance test achieving 3rd position in Design and 4th in Innovation.  Because of undertaking and participating in such projects, the scholastic proficiency of the students has escalated. The college being a centre for origination for innovative ideas and enhancement of skills to accomplish their goals.
